Acrylic Kitchen Backsplash

Experts at ShapesPlastics advise that there are some limitations with the type of material that is dependent on the cooker you have. As durable as Acrylic is, it cannot be used with a gas cooker due to the low-temperature tolerance and the risk of heat damage. Instead, glass might be more suitable for such application and can match the appearance of acrylic in the surrounding areas. You can read more about the difference between acrylic and glass here. For an electric or induction cooker, acrylic is the ideal material and will ensure your kitchen stays clean, moisture-free, and easy to maintain.

While glass and tiles are still frequently used in kitchen designs, acrylic sheets have become a staple for many modern homes. They offer many advantages of the standard materials. Benefits of adding a kitchen backsplash include:

How To Fit your New Kitchen Backsplash

ShapesPlastics experts recommend leaving a 1mm gap at the top and bottom to ensure minimal movement and proper fitting 0f the acrylic backsplash. This is advised when fitting it between your worktop and cupboard. It’s important to make sure all surfaces are leveled. Don’t worry about any small gaps as they can be filled with sealants once fitted to prevent moisture from running down the walls.
A gap between 3mm to 5mm is recommended for sockets and switches. Similarly, sealants can be applied around the inside of the switch and the edge of the acrylic panel.
Once you have all measurements noted for your custom backsplash, order your acrylic with ShapesPlastics custom fabrication that cuts it to your specification. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can cut the materials once delivered. We recommend reading more about machining acrylic prior to ordering.
Once your custom acrylic backsplash has been delivered, simply peel back any protective plastic from the back of the acrylic, apply your chosen adhesive and carefully position your sheet into place. It’s important to make sure all surfaces are dry. Using a simple cloth, wipe away any excess adhesive spilling from the sides of the acrylic sheet and let it sit for 24 hours. And voila - your DIY backsplash is ready!

How to Clean Plastic Backsplash

In order to maintain the high gloss finish of your acrylic kitchen backsplash, just soak a non-abrasive cloth in warm soapy water and wipe down the surface. Cleaning and maintaining has never been as easy.
