Extruded Nylon is the strongest, most rigid, and has one of the highest melting points of all the unmodified nylons. It has good resistance to fuels, lubricants, and most chemicals, but surrenders to strong acids and alkalis. Extruded Nylon Natural is FDA, USDA, NSF, and 3A-Dairy compliant.

With a lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion and excellent physical properties such as impact and abrasion resistance, Extruded Nylon is an ideal replacement for a wide variety of materials from metal to rubber. It is commonly specified for screw machined electrical insulators and food contact parts. Extruded Nylon is easily fabricated and machined into precision parts using start metalworking equipment.
Key Properties
- Good mechanical and electrical properties
- Good combination of strength and toughness
- FDA, USD, NSF & 3A Dairy Compliant
- NSF Compliant Standard 61
- Not UV stabilized
- Temperature range: -40°F to 225°F
- High Moisture Absorption
- 1/7 the weight of Bronze
Extruded Nylon is better suited for economical and ideal for extended production cycle and when larger quantities are made. A model replacement for metal, with versatility, toughness, wear-resistance, and excellent temperature and impact properties. Unlike cast nylon, the absorption of moisture adversely affects its dimensional stability.
Applications of Extruded Nylon
- Bushings and bearings
- Gears and sprockets
- Wear rails, pads and strips
- Pulleys and sheaves
- Conveyor wheels and rollers
- Feed screws
- Star wheels
Engineering Note:
Nylons can absorb up to 7% (by weight) water under high humidity or submerged in water. This can result in dimensional changes up to 2% and a corresponding reduction of physical properties. Proper design techniques can frequently compensate for this factor.
