For items priced 'From $ Per Square Foot', the price refers to the material.  Your final price includes material, plus cutting & handling charges that vary based on your entered dimensions.  Sheet sizes requiring a pallet (not handled by a standard FedEx/UPS courier van) will incur shipping charges during checkout.

Cast Nylon (MoS2) is an extremely versatile engineering material with high resistance to impact, wear, and vibration. It also offers excellent dimensional stability, heat resistance, lubricity, and creep performance - a superior choice over metal and rubber in many mechanical applications.

With a lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion than Extruded Nylon, Cast Nylon parts maintain better fit and clearances and have less tendency to seize as bearings. Being a hard material, Cast Nylon has a strong sound-absorbing capacity and has a relatively high moisture absorption rate, approximately 2 - 3%, which is important to consider for applications that require dimensional stability. Nylon MoS2/MD can expand due to moisture absorption. One other thing to consider is UV-resistance for any outdoor applications. We recommend the black color sheet as it offers better UV-resistance.

In terms of fabrication, Cast Nylon is easier to machine than its extruded counterpart. It is much more stable with less internal tension. Welding and gluing are not possible, however, tapping and drilling are.

Engineering Note:

Nylons can absorb up to 7% (by weight) water under high humidity or submerged in water. This can result in dimensional changes up to 2% and a corresponding reduction of physical properties. Proper design techniques can frequently compensate for this factor.
